Fitting Guided Meditation Into a Busy Schedule

Guided Meditation Tracks for People Who Can’t Calm Down

Some people can meditate in a quiet room, or with just the ripple of a brook in the background. Conversely, I prefer to listen to guided meditation tracks. In saying that, I in no way resemble the #lifegoals images on Pinterest of skinny, serene, 20-something women, cross-legged, palms facing upward, hands resting elegantly on their knees while AI-enhanced steam wafts from their diffuser.

If only I had the luxury of carving out meditation time during hours when daylight can stream ethereally through gauze curtains.

Ahh…

How calming…

But wait. I forgot about that thing. What was it, again?

Oh, yeah. Reality.

My husband works from home in an office with no doors, so I have to wear noise-canceling headphones to block out discussions on international tax software. Meanwhile, my dog thinks I’m his on-call play-pal. Sooner or later my two wonderful, loud teenage boys arrive home from school and love to fill me in on the minutae of their days. But Mommy’s bladder isn’t what it used to be, and Mommy needs to pee.

I am busy. I am tired. I am woman.

Hear me snore

Meditation is enormously beneficial. It reduces adrenaline and cortisol in our systems. As someone with high blood pressure, and a genetic line prone to death by stroke or heart attack, regular guided mediation is essential for my health.

HOWEVER…

I don’t do calm

Others can relax by sunning themselves on beaches in the Cook Islands, but that type of relaxing just stresses me out.

Instead, I need meditations that wake me up, inspire me, and get me motivated. I prefer short meditations that can preferably be listened to while walking (no asking me to close my eyes), doing laundry, or going to the toilet (because some days, that’s the only “free” time I get).

30 minutes of non-stop relaxation?

Forget about it

Regardless how early I wake, whether it’s 5:30 am, or 4:30 am, I cannot carve out 30-60-minute blocks for relaxation. However, what I can do, is find 3 minutes, 4 minutes, or 10 minutes, here and there throughout the day to listen to guided meditation tracks. In this way, I can accumulate 30-60 minutes of meditation throughout the day, creating micro bolts of encouragement to elevate me through the day.
